Common, born Lonnie Rashied Lynn, Jr., is one of America's most influential artists and actors. Common came out in 1992 with the album Can I Borrow a Dollar? He gained a significant underground following, which is still present today. He gained mainstream attention with his album Soulquarians. His first Grammy came in 2003 with the hit "Love of My Life (An Ode to Hip-Hop)" with Erykah Badu. Common continues to create hits while pursuing another career in acting.

Afrika Bambaataa

Afrika Bambaataa, born 1957, is one of the most instrumental figures in the development of Hip-Hop in the 1980's. He also was one of the three originators of breakbeat DJing and is now considered the grandfather of Hip-Hop Culture. Bambaataa originated in the South Bronx of New York City. Through his co-opting of the street gang the Black Spades into the music and culture-oriented Universal Zulu Nation, he is responsible for spreading hip hop culture throughout the world. On September 27, 2007, he was nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
