Marvin Pentz Gay jr., born April 2nd 1939 and commonly know as Marvin Gaye was a prolific songwriter, instrumentalist, and vocalist. In the 1950’s Gaye started with the band the Moonglows. He then, after the group disbanded, started his solo career the record label Tamla. Gaye would eventually rank as their top selling artist in the 1960’s. His solos and duets earned him the name The Prince of Motown and The Prince of Soul. In the Mid-70’s Gaye gave the world What’s going on, Lets get it on, and I want you. These albums helped changes the sound of adult contemporary and slow jams. Marvin Gaye was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after his 1984.
