Martin Luther King, Jr., born January 15th 1929, was an American hero, activist, minister, and leader of the African American civil rights movement. King accomplished and lead many of his historic rallies and marches using the nonviolent teachings of mahatma Gandhi. King is also hailed as the leader of modern liberalism. Early in his career, King was a Baptist minister. In 1955 he later helped lead the Montgomery bus boycott; solidifying his activist leader title. King’s effort in the 1963’s March on Washington helped usher in a change in the country.
Martin Luther king’s struggles eventually earned him the honor of being the youngest Nobel Prize winner in 1964. Sadly, 4 years later in 1968, King was assassinated in Memphis Tennessee. After his death, King was honored with the presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977 and given his own national holiday starting 1986.
